Four Seasons Nevis

Upon arrival at the resort, we were escorted from the dock directly to our room by a check-in agent who provided an overview of the hotel and our room. The room was very elegant, and in a classic style. Definitely not the ultra-modern you find at other hotels but this was in line with what you would expect at a Four Seasons.

Our room was sufficiently large with a couch and two double beds. The bed was especially soft and very comfortable. There was also a desk and chair.  The bathroom was very large with a double vanity, shower, tub, and a separated toilet. Also waiting in the room were some coconut cookies as a welcome snack.  My immediate reaction to the room that it was luxurious, but did not really have that “wow” factor. On the other hand, it seems like that was style they were going for – a homey feel that is comfortable and luxurious.

On the porch, there were two comfortable recliners with cushions and a table and chairs.  We had a great view of the golf course and Nevis Peak.  After seeing the ocean view rooms, we definitely preferred our view as there was less foot traffic and you really did not get a good view of the ocean from the room.

After settling in, we walked around the resort a bit. There were three pools: two that allow kids and one adults-only. I should mention at this point that the resort is very kid-friendly with activities and special dining menus available. There was also the Great Hall which held the restaurants, reception, and concierge desk. Also nearby was the sports center with tennis courts, fitness facility, and golf clubhouse.

The beaches were well groomed with soft white sand.  While we were there, half the beach was closed for reclamation work. I never found out how long that was supposed to take, but it was not especially intrusive and did not take away anything from our stay.  There was never a problem getting chairs at the beach or at the pool.  Plenty were available all day with both shade and sun, so no need to camp out early in the morning like you have to at other resorts.

We decided to spend what was left of the afternoon at this point on the beach. An assistant set up some chairs with towels for us.  The service around the hotel was absolutely fantastic.  As we sat on the beach or pool, attendants would come around offering water, cool towels, and even smoothie and rum punch samples.  In addition, everyone we met would greet us with a hello.  This feeling of being welcome really makes a difference.

After relaxing and swimming, we walked down the beach to Sunshine’s for dinner. I had read that the resort dinners were pricey and not especially worth it, and that the restaurants down the beach were good and a better value. I had some grilled shrimp and Sam had the BBQ chicken. Both were good.  To get to the restaurants, walk south from the resort (i.e. the ocean on your right) about 100 yards down the beach.  The walk back is very dark, so be sure to bring a cellphone with a light or I believe I saw a flashlight in the room as well.

There is not much going on around the resort besides getting (pricey) drinks at the bars in the evenings.  We spent most evenings watching movies or reading on the patio until the bugs got really bad.
